Nestled on the Ogliastra hills, immersed in lush vegetation made of centuries-old olive groves and fragrant vineyards, lies the charming village of Loceri, an authentic jewel of the central-eastern coast of Sardinia.
Its strategic position, just a few minutes from the sea and a short distance from the mountains, makes it an ideal base for exploring the natural and cultural wonders of Ogliastra.
The historic center of Loceri is a true open-air museum, embellished with splendid murals, among the largest and most evocative on the island, which tell stories of life, tradition and identity.

Arte, Cultura e Natura: alla Scoperta di Loceri
Walking through the streets of the historic center of Loceri is like taking a journey into the artistic soul and identity of an entire community. The town is home to the evocative "Percorso dell’Arte", an outdoor itinerary that winds through narrow streets and small squares, embellished with about 100 murals, some of which are large, and numerous sculptural works also created with the Sand Casting technique. These creations powerfully evoke the agro-pastoral tradition of Loceri.
📍 Museums and Historical Memory In Loceri, you can also immerse yourself in the material culture and peasant memory by visiting:
The Ethnographic Museum "Sa Domu e s'Olia", housed in a historic building, where on the ground floor there is the oldest oil mill still in situ. Inside, you can admire agricultural tools, instruments for the production of oil and domestic environments set up with furnishings, toys and ancient costumes of the Sardinian tradition.
The “Vecchi Frantoi” Museum, which preserves two ancient olive mills, evidence of the important olive growing vocation of Loceri, which today has only partially survived the fires of the past.
🌿 Nature and Archaeology Lovers of nature and ancient history will find a true paradise in the surroundings of Loceri:
The Nuragic site Su Cassargiu, at 267 metres above sea level, and the Nuraghe Serrauleri
The mysterious Domus de Janas in the Is Arceddas area
The Taccu Park, on the plateau of the same name, next to the country church of the Sacred Heart, near the Nuraghe Cea

Also not to be missed is the Campestre Church of San Bachisio, in popular Baroque style, located at the southern entrance to the town, next to the verdant San Bachisio Park.
TO TASTE
🍽️ The Authentic Flavors of Loceri
Locerese cuisine tells the story and identity of a territory that has been linked to the agricultural-pastoral culture for centuries. The typical dishes, simple but rich in flavor, are born from genuine ingredients and ancient recipes handed down from generation to generation.
🥟 Culurgiones: the soul of Ogliastra
Among the first courses, the famous Culurgiones stand out, ravioli with the characteristic “ear of corn” closure, made strictly by hand. In Loceri, the traditional variant includes a filling of potatoes, pecorino cheese and mint (fresh or dried), which gives the dish a fresh and enveloping aroma. A celebratory dish, a symbol of hospitality and conviviality.
🍞 Sa Coccoi de Forru: the taste of the wood-fired oven
Another strongly identifying dish is Sa Coccoi de Forru, a savory pie made with courgettes and onions, cooked in a wood-fired oven. It used to be the ideal meal to take to the countryside during the olive harvest or grape harvest: nutritious, tasty, tied to the rhythms of the earth.
🧀 Cheese, honey and bread: local excellences
In Loceri, cheese is art. The expert hands of shepherds give life to aged and fresh cheeses, such as ricotta or su casu ascedu, to be enjoyed with a drizzle of artisanal honey produced by local beekeepers. To complete the table, pistoccu bread, a crunchy pastry cooked in a wood-fired oven, perfect to accompany a glass of Cannonau produced with native grapes.
🍬 Festive and memory sweets
The confectionery tradition of Loceri is equally rich:
Le Pàrdule, small crowns of pasta filled with ricotta or sour cheese, typical of the Easter period
Su Pane e Congiu, an ancient sweet made with sapa (cooked wine syrup), dense and aromatic
Le Panisceddas (also known as Pabassinas), sweets rich in dried fruit and honey, perfect for the holidays
